My bit

Guess this's turning out to be more of a Bong adda than Calcutta per se. Delightfully so too because Calcutta's getting so non-Bengali-ish - you've to see the queue in front of Blue Print on Lindsay while the Dey's Medical people swat flies these days. Yes, the Bengali Calcutta is more of a bygone era. But then there are also those small instances when my college buddies (non-Bongs) who had (small) stints on working there complain that the Rt. 240 actually reads dusho chollish which drives them nuts - and then that grin on my face just pops up so involuntarily :)

In fact my pals complain that Calcutta is too darned slow and shopkeepers actually draw their shutters down for their afternoon siestas - gosh, think of the lazy laidback wintry afternoons and the smog-filled sky and basking in the lukewarm sun on the terrace - now that my friend is Calcutta for you!

More later...

somehow that conjures up a memory of vaguely nice smelling smoke filling there. not sure where its coming from :)

happy diwali everyone!

calcutta, i think, was always very non-bengali in patches and very bengali in patches. think DI (which i think has suffenly become very bong-ish), think bengal club, think new alipore, free school street, wellesly, lake gardens, tangra, southern avenue. i think the picture of Cal we get depends on where and when we look, like most cities, I guess

we have it all to offer, just ask and u shall have it :)

i agree - i love Kolkata for all the things that others think is the fault with it - traffic, over curious neighbors, laid back nature and what not - Kolkata should just stay the way it is coz that's what makes it so unique

prerona, hey, i sent you a mail about working on this template a bit, since i'm not exactly html savvy. a reply, if even a refusal, would certainly be appreciated. and i'm afraid this blog has enough members already, don't you think? the google group is open for all, though...

and people always complain, but nobody thanks me when the word verification is turned off!!! hrrumph!!!

biplab--man, i'm sorry. this isn't really relevant to the post, i know...

About the new members: I thought it was a more the merrier thing? MAybe it would be a better idea to put these kids in and maybe take me out - cz they are actually in Cal and so it makes more sense? :)

Calcutta..kolkata..is special coz it does not conform..the thing that i like the best is the lack of a definitive geometry to bind the city. However, there is a certain part of kolkata that cannot be experienced at the oxford bookstore..some people call it the real calcutta..some the foggy side...yeah lotsa smoke there too...anyway to each his own
peace out,
pacman

I perused your post (this post) with much interest as I was looking for ways to buy and sell private road construction. Unfortunately your article was not exactly what I was looking for
